Virtual Fourth of July Celebration with the Museum of the American Revolution

The powerful words of the Declaration of Independence founded a new nation on the revolutionary idea that “all men are created equal” with unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration’s promise of liberty and equality has been expanding ever since, yet still remains a beautiful—but unfulfilled—dream. The American Revolution lives on in all of us as we continue the work of advancing these promises for all people. During a weeklong Fourth of July celebration, the Museum of the American Revolution will offer free, interactive virtual experiences for all ages that explore the Declaration’s promise.

VIRTUAL EVENT: Streaming | Meet an Astronomer | The Kuiper Belt with Dr. Larry Wasserman - July 7 at 2pm Pacific from Lowell Observatory

The Kuiper Belt consists of those objects which orbit the Sun beyond Neptune. It was actually “discovered” with the 1930 discovery of Pluto, but nobody realized what was really out there until a second object was found in 1992. We have now been able to study this part of the Solar System for 28 years and have discovered thousands of these objects. What have we learned about these faint, icy, primitive bodies? And what about the big question regarding Pluto. Is it a planet? For that matter, what is (or what should be) a planet? Lowell Observatory Astronomer Dr. Larry Wasserman helps us answer these questions.
