Get the best of both worlds in this beginners class that explores two of the most rewarding ways to work with clay. Over the course of the semester, you'll spend a few weeks handbuilding—learning slab, coil, and pinch techniques along with slump molds—then transition to the wheel, where you'll discover centering, opening, pulling walls, and trimming. Along the way, we'll dig into altering and refining your forms, so pieces made by hand or on the wheel can take on a life of their own. Each session blends short demos with guided practice and 1:1 coaching, giving you time to build confidence in both disciplines before bringing them together. We'll also explore surface decoration techniques like sgraffito, carving, and appliqué. All pieces are finished with dinnerware-safe glazes—great for everyday use and dishwasher/microwave friendly. We can't wait to see what you make!
